Director

Alexander Dichmont
 

Alex is the founder director of Shopwyke Singers. Born in Cape Town, he graduated from the university there in 1981 and came to the UK to study piano and organ at The Royal Northern College of Music, where his teachers were Nicholas Kynaston and Dame Gillian Weir. He graduated with a Masters Degree and a Professional Performers Diploma

As an organist, he has given recitals in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa and and Canada, and been a prize-winner in the St Albans International Organ Competition and the South African International Organ Competition (1st Prize). He specialises in the music of 20th-century France and the German Baroque. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. 

As a choral conductor, Alex has conducted the Bournemouth Bach Choir, the Rilstone Singers, and the Rogate Choral Society. 

He is Director of Music at Westbourne House School and Organist and Choirmaster at Boxgrove Priory.
